    Beautiful.
Actually found myself moved, and proud.
    Did you meet any curmudgeons??
If you did, king of glad you didn't put them in, would've ruined the tone of the piece.

Nice work, Amanda! It's important to keep the upbeat feeling going now that the hard work has begun and politics is raising it's head.

:-) That just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.

If someone could explain to me what it means to “hold space” I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Vienna

to “hold space” means to be responsible for creating a trusting circle where conversation flows

  • Caroline

I throw my leg up on a chair and tell “other people” they can't sit there…

  • Lance

I think both Vienna and Caroline are both right… I also see it as holding the physical space you are standing in. There is only so much space on the mall and their bodies will “hold” that exact area of space… That's how I took it.

  • jimmulrony

I think it could also refer to just being physically present at a momentous occasion.

“Umm did you see how they were dressed? They are clearly not grounded in reality. I overheard someone at Starbucks the other day saying to her friend that “with each breath Obama is repairing the fabric of the universe” So maybe they were holding up some “space” for Obama to breathe on???”
