There will always be a place for print material but the ebook and is definitely cutting into that market by a huge chunk.

Update: Just heard a report on NPR about "Literary Espresso". Apparently it's a vending machine in the UK that prints and binds books in minutes. You put in your $$, choose your book, and in the time it takes to make a Caramel Macchiato, you get your book, printed and bound...the convenience of a Kindle and the pleasure of paper. It's envisioned to succeed in airports, etc. Pretty cool.

Jerry, I have to admit, I LOVE the smell of books. One of the first things I do when I pick one up in a bookstore is roll through the pages and take a little sniffy-sniff (shout out to Gary Vaynerchuk there). I know...kinda weird, but it's one of the comforts that books have you just don't get with electronics. As much as I love my MBP, I don't smell it.
  • / good job on the book video ... You are a woman of your word!! I'm honored. Thx! And your site is interesting too!

In some way it's not surprising.. there haven't been any radical changes to the form factor of a book.. it hasn't followed any evolutionary tracks like music or movies. Its basic design is somewhat inherently timeless.

I really love books, and like Jerry Langton, was struck with the sensual imagery in this piece. I can relate to that. No, no matter how convenient, ebooks are not for me. I relish the peace and predictability offered by the real thing.

Can you imagine to read an ebook on the beach? I think book will never die because people read everywhere and you can't go everywhere with an ebook ;)
  • The beach is pretty much the only place I won't bring my Kindle. Point paperbacks!
  • An interesting exploration of the place of print in the digital age.
  • Thanks Chris! Are you an ebook or a regular book kinda guy?
  • thanks for being you! hope you check out the stuff on paper recycling :)
  • Jerry Langton
I was surprised by all the sensual imagery people were using. Have you ever actually smelled a book? People like that?

Liked a number of things about this one:

AMANDA (as always, big fan here.)

COOL MUSIC relaxing, non-obtrusive yet energizing. Perfect.

BOTH SIDES OF THE QUESTION The veggie marchers were...well... veggie marchers

SCRIPT COMMENTS @ THE END. Nice touch to have folks weigh in, and nicely presented with the black background and big font. Were they from Twitter?

    INTERESTING, PERTINENT CONTENT

    Enjoyed the show.
  • I don't believe print will be a luxury item as I dont believe it will go away.
