Why did the chicken, cow and hundreds of vegetarians cross the road? To celebrate Veggie Pride in Los Angeles, of course!

I'll never get what people have against vegetarians. If you say you're vegetarian, you often receive evil looks! In certain parts of continental Europe, the concept is almost alien.

As for me, I've been vegetarian for about 5 years but before that I was on and off for 5 years.
  • So true Joe! When I was in Russia it was so hard to get vegetables and people thought I was so weird and "American" for asking. There must be more vegetarians in Western Europe than Eastern Europe though, right?

Absolutely, I faced most difficulty in Poland. Asking for a meal without the meat was nearly impossible to communicate and it ended up coming with meat anyway. The linguistic barrier didn't help, though!

It isn't as problematic in, say, France but you will still get evil looks and think you're somewhat crazy when you say the evil phrase 'je suis végétarien'.
  • interesting... I always think of Europeans as being more evolved than us Americans in many ways... I guess not dietarily! I know that's not a word...

and what's your veggie story Amanda?
  • My story is actually kind of weird! I realized last July that I had just randomly stopped eating meat, which was weird since I had always been very carnivorous. So... I decided not to tell anyone and just see if I stayed vegetarian. Once I had stopped eating meat for a month I realized I didn't miss it and that my body felt really good! So I announced my vegetarianism finally to friends & family. :)
