    Tell then what could be better
    Then end with a compliment.

    That is how you stay honest in a nice way.

    Example:
    The color of the dress looks great on you
    But I think you need a different style
    that will compliment your figure in a better way!

    andrew, that was a cogent summary of the issue there at the end, and Amanda, you took the high road which certainly has merit, but is the more difficult to navigate. In the end, as poppa j said in the chat room yesterday (paraphrasing here)," in order to honorably tell the truth, you have to be able to hear the truth about yourself from others without freaking out ."
